New Technology & Resources Drive Efficiency in a Labor-Short Industry

While the construction industry continues to grapple with the challenges of booming demand and an insufficient workforce, builders are left with no option but to make the most of the resources they do have. Technology is one way for construction companies to cope with the labor shortage and meet increasing demand.

"Tech is changing the way we communicate and engage professionally and personally," says Sarah Hodges, senior director of the construction business line at construction software company Autodesk. Today's technology allows the jobsite and back office to stay continually connected, and also enhances how information is collected and analyzed.

“I do see builders using more technology like scheduling software and productivity apps in an effort to be more organized and meet increasing product demands,” says Angie Kieta, Market Development Manager for LP Building Products.

In addition to driving efficiency and productivity, use of technology also helps a company and the construction industry in general to attract and retain younger workers.

Using Technology to Educate Builders

“In terms of architectural resources, we are seeing an increased demand from builders for more training and assistance,” says Kieta. “In response to this need, LP has created Architect’s Corner, which includes comprehensive resources to give builders more design freedom and assistance in taking AIA-accredited CEU courses.”

Design and building industry professionals can source Architect’s Corner to find product details and specifications related to LP's engineered wood products. The resource includes full specification and warranty documents for LP® FlameBlock® Fire-Rated OSB Sheathing and LP® SmartSide® Trim & Siding, two of the most commonly specified products in multifamily and light commercial construction. Other resources available on Architect's Corner include drawing details, instructional videos and more in-depth information that can help specifiers and architects enjoy more design freedom.
