In a remote rainforest north of Vancouver, LP product experts and two of the world’s leading kayakers embarked on the ultimate testing mission: to prove the strength and durability of the new LP Legacy® Premium Sub-flooring by exposing it to one of Mother Nature’s biggest extremes.
Under the lens of adventure photographers and videographers, the team sent an LP Legacy sub-flooring panel over the edge of Britannia Falls, a 70-foot drop at 625 cubic feet per second. The panel then remained in the falls' swirling wake overnight.
"As we were developing this campaign, we really wanted a way to differentiate our product from everything else in the market," said LP Business Marketing Manager Lorraine Russ. "One way to do that is to show the performance of the board in a completely different and unique way. And what better way to do that than to put the product into some really extreme conditions that go far beyond what you might see on even the harshest jobsite."
Twenty-four hours later, when the team retrieved the board from the river, the panel showed some bumps and bruises but no signs of swelling.
“LP put the boards through a submersion test in a lab, but we thought this would be a much better test, with the force of the water on the board and being submerged at the same time,” said Luke Partridge, who kayaked the waterfall and assisted with the testing.
Packed with more resin, wax, and wood strands and made with Gorilla Glue Technology™, LP Legacy engineered sub-floor boasts superior moisture resistance that prevents edge swell. As a result, LP Legacy carries a class-leading “Covered Until It’s Covered” no-sand warranty, as well as a Lifetime Limited Warranty that lasts as long as the home.
"Backed by LP's 44 years of manufacturing experience, LP Legacy is a complete sub-floor solution whose premium performance in wet, harsh environments provides building pros with peace of mind until each house is closed in," said Jim Abbott, Director, OSB/EWP Sales of LP Building Products. "What's more, our exclusive alliance with Gorilla Glue allows builders to promote a high-profile brand recognized by homeowners for its toughness and durability."
Each wood strand in LP Legacy panels is coated with resins using Gorilla Glue Technology to ensure maximum moisture resistance. The resins bond wood strands at the molecular level for premium performance. The panel's high density makes it ideal for hardwood floors, tile applications, and homes that may be exposed to the elements for longer periods during construction.
"I think ultimately what builders want in a panel is to never have to deal with it after installation. It doesn't give them any issues initially in the build, through the construction phase, and through to the finished flooring going down," said Brian St. Germain, LP's Director of Business Quality & Technology. "To withstand all the rigors of building and still end up where they don't have to think about it after its installed, that requires a tough panel, and that's what we designed."
