Fine Homebuilding Pro Talk Podcast Recap

As a builder, you're no stranger to new product introductions or buzz around installation techniques. The building industry is dedicated to continuous innovation, and now industry experts are taking to the mic to share their advice.

Platforms such as The Fine Homebuilding Podcast host conversations with industry experts that help listeners master their design and building challenges.

Recently, Neil Freidberg, Building Science Manager at LP Building Solutions, and Kyle Stumpenhorst of RR Buildings joined Fine Homebuilding Senior Editor Patrick McCombe to talk about the technology behind LP WeatherLogic® Air & Water Barrier and other proven products from LP Structural Solutions on The Fine Homebuilding Podcast.

In this episode, Freidberg and Stumpenhorst discuss the importance of an effective air and water barrier and how LP WeatherLogic sheathing, which combines a Structural I panel with an integrated overlay, improves jobsite efficiency.

LP WeatherLogic Seam & Flashing Tape serves as the final step in creating the WRB system (sheathing and tape). "It's kind of mind blowing," says Stumpenhorst. "With LP WeatherLogic panels I already have my WRB integrated into that panel, so when I'm done installing my sheathing, I just have to run my tape" across all panel seams.

LP WeatherLogic sheathing is a simple way to help contribute to a tight building envelope, plus it helps dominate your toughest challenges on the jobsite with superior moisture resistance.

Freidberg also mentioned the latest product from LP, LP NovaCore Thermal Insulated Sheathing. “It’s a one-inch XPS board, made with Owens-Corning Foamular® NGX® insulation, which is attached to a 7/16 OSB sheathing panel,” he says. “It’s adhered so the foam sits against the studs. Builders can choose which housewrap they want to use. If they’re adding siding, which needs structural anchoring, that structure is right there.”

Tighter Lot Sizes Focus More Attention on Fire Separation Distance

It's no secret that many developers, architects and builders are reducing lot size as one way to hold down housing costs and maintain profitability. In fact, the rise of zero-lot-line homes, odd-lot/infill development and compressed parcel spacing is helping shape a new housing normal for many communities. This downsizing is focusing attention on minimum fire separation distance.
