LP Introduces the New FlameBlock® I-Joist
As the global leader of engineered wood products, we’re thrilled to be expanding our product line with the new LP FlameBlock® I-Joist. This product combines the strength of an LP SolidStart I-Joist with LP FlameBlock’s proven, patented, non-combustible Pyrotite® coating to slow the effects of heat and flame.
The LP FlameBlock I-Joist is designed to help builders find a new innovative solution for the latest “Fire Protection of Floors” section of the 2012 IRC (R501,3) while at the same time achieving the level of performance that builders and homeowners have come to expect from LP.
In addition to code-compliant fire protection, the FlameBlock I-Joist features easy installation and many product advantages. The joist features 2-1/2" wide flanges for easier handling and more nailing/glue surface, and its uniform properties allow the joist to be installed with either flange up. Holes can be cut in the web for HVAC and plumbing using standard installation instructions, and no additional treatment is required of the cut areas. The thicker web makes floors feel firmer and the joist fits commonly available hangers.
