Sustainability Day 2026: How LP Building Solutions Is Building a Better World™ Through Innovation, Stewardship, and Sustainable Products

Every year, Sustainability Day serves as a reminder that the choices people make today shape the world they will leave behind tomorrow. For the building industry, sustainability is more than reducing environmental impact. It’s about creating durable products, investing in people, supporting communities, and responsibly managing natural resources for generations to come.

At LP Building Solutions, sustainability is not a single initiative. It’s embedded in our purpose: Building a Better World™. LP continues to advance sustainable practices across its operations, products, and workforce while helping builders and homeowners create resilient, long-lasting structures.

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important consideration in home construction, and builders today are looking for products that deliver both performance and environmental benefits. LP produces engineered wood building products that help store carbon, with key product lines delivering a carbon-negative footprint, contributing to a more sustainable future, one project at a time.

Innovating for a More Sustainable Future

The construction industry plays a vital role in creating a more sustainable future. An effective way to reduce environmental impact is through durable, high-performance building materials that help extend the life of a structure while minimizing maintenance and replacement needs.

LP’s sustainability approach includes continued investment in product innovation and manufacturing excellence. In 2025 alone, LP received a record 21 patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, bringing its total patents to 48. This milestone reflects LP’s commitment to developing building products that help solve challenges for builders, homeowners, and communities.

Products like LP® SmartSide® Trim & Siding and LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® Trim & Siding are engineered for durability and long-term performance, supporting sustainable building practices by helping structures withstand tough weather conditions while maintaining curb appeal over time.

Responsible Stewardship of Natural Resources

As a manufacturer of engineered wood products, LP recognizes the importance of responsible environmental stewardship. It extends from raw material sourcing through manufacturing and beyond. Sustainability influences how LP governs its business, develops products, and manages operations across North America.

Engineered wood products can help maximize the value of every harvested tree by utilizing resources efficiently throughout the manufacturing process. LP’s ongoing environmental initiatives reflect the commitment to continuous improvement and responsible resource management. As an early adopter of Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) standards, LP earned its first SFI certification in 2000. Today, this certification guarantees that 100% of the wood fiber we source in the U.S. and Canada meets the rigorous SFI® standards.

Investing in People Creates Long-Term Sustainability

A truly sustainable company invests not only in products and processes, but also in their people. Nearly 130,000 training hours were completed by LP team members across North America in 2025, which represents a 33% year-over-year increase. The employee engagement score also increased by four points, surpassing the manufacturing industry’s benchmark.

These investments help create a skilled, engaged workforce capable of driving innovation, improving operational excellence, and supporting customers year after year.

Safety remains a top priority of LP’s culture as well. In 2025, LP was recognized as APA- The Engineered Wood Association’s Safest Company for the 13th time in the award’s 17-year history.

Sustainability Includes Strong Communities

Sustainability extends beyond environmental performance. It also means creating positive impacts in the communities where people live and work.

LP’s sustainability initiatives include meaningful community engagement and investment that strengthens local communities across its operating footprint. Community Support is one of the five sustainability pillars, alongside Governance, People, Environment, and Products.

Whether supporting housing initiatives, workforce development efforts, or local community projects, LP believes sustainable growth requires strong partnerships and shared success.

Why Sustainability Matters for Builders and Homeowners

As homeowners increasingly seek durable, efficient, and low-maintenance building materials, sustainability continues to influencer purchasing decisions. Builders are also looking for solutions that balance performance, aesthetics, and responsible sourcing.

Choosing high-performance engineered wood products, like LP® products, can help support both building longevity and environmental responsibility. Combined with ongoing innovation and a commitment to responsible business practices, sustainable building products can play an important role in creating homes that stand the test of time.
