LP House Part 2: Kyle Stumpenhorst and Jordan Smith Install LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® Trim & Siding
In December, contractors Kyle Stumpenhorst of @rrbuildings and Jordan Smith of @jordansmithbuilds began construction on a modern farmhouse in Bellville, Texas, highlighting products in the LP Structural Solutions portfolio. Last month they entered into the highly anticipated siding phase of the build, installing the newest member of the LP® SmartSide® portfolio—LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® Trim & Siding.
When looking at the 16 color options of LP SmartSide ExpertFinish Trim & Siding, Jordan and his wife (and business partner) Veronica selected Snowscape White. Veronica explains the reasoning, “We modeled the design of this home after a traditional farmhouse we saw and loved, then added contemporary elements to create a modern aesthetic. The white-on-white color scheme accentuates the design elements that make this build a true modern farmhouse.”
One of the added contemporary elements is the board & batten configuration Jordan installed on the detached master bedroom, using LP® SmartSide® Vertical Trim & Siding to create a charming, clean look with its 16-foot length. He says, “Longer lengths means less seams. Being a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to exterior design, this was particularly valuable for me in ensuring a clean and crisp aesthetic.”
Kyle flew down for a week to help with phase two of the build, and similar to previous experiences he was most impressed by the workability of LP SmartSide ExpertFinish products. He says, “Having worked with LP SmartSide products a few times now, the ease of installation is what continues to be the most significant benefit for me as a builder. It was also awesome to see how easily Jordan picked up how to install the LP SmartSide products and then how quickly it went when we worked together.”
Kyle was also looking forward to installing LP SmartSide Vertical Siding, as he has only installed LP® SmartSide® Lap Siding in the past. While the longer lengths required a little more ladder time than he's used to, he says, “The ability to install these longer lengths is killer when you're an ‘attention to detail' guy like I am. It is also a time saver, so it increases productivity on the jobsite. It's a win-win.”
Last but not least, both Kyle and Jordan were excited about getting a first look at the new proprietary LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® Lap, which allows builders to avoid the need for seam caulking, joint molds or pan flashing at butt joints. “This is just another time-saving quality to add to a smoother jobsite installation,” says Jordan.
