Offering Proof of High Performance

Builders don't want to take chances on unproven materials - and they're wary of products that bill themselves as "high performance" without offering proof. In this industry, building product proof of performance is something taken seriously.

At LP, we understand that our customers need thorough validation of all product claims done through building product testing. That's why we put our products through some of the most grueling tests imaginable. Here are some examples of field and lab testing of building products from LP:

  • LP® SmartSide® Trim & Siding has been tested for damage resistance by third parties, including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In the NASA impact testing, a golf ball traveling 63 miles per hour and a baseball thrown at 77 miles per hour left no visible damage to the siding. Testing shows that LP SmartSide strand products offer outstanding impact resistance, which means they can stand up better against everything from everyday bumps to airborne storm debris. Learn more about LP SmartSide Trim & Siding.

LP believes that when you call a building product “high performance,” you’d better have a mountain of data to prove it.

That means that our products store more carbon than is released during their entire life cycle, making us a meaningful part of the climate solution.

Tighter Lot Sizes Focus More Attention on Fire Separation Distance

It's no secret that many developers, architects and builders are reducing lot size as one way to hold down housing costs and maintain profitability. In fact, the rise of zero-lot-line homes, odd-lot/infill development and compressed parcel spacing is helping shape a new housing normal for many communities. This downsizing is focusing attention on minimum fire separation distance.
