Shed Builder Spotlight: Summit Portable Buildings
Summit Portable Buildings is a family-owned business that has been providing customizable, handcrafted outdoor structures for more than 16 years. Owned by cousins Ervin and Nelson Stutzman, the company strives to provide honesty, options and solutions above all.
Shannon Latham, director of sales for Summit Portable Buildings, has witnessed the industry evolve beyond just storage solutions to unique purposes like music studios, home offices and even food pantries. "We're increasingly seeing customers use our sheds in more ways than we could have even imagined," he says. "That gives us a lot of hope for the future of this industry."
Selling Durability Above All
Latham says with these reimagined sheds, durability is more important than ever as they are now being treated as an extension of the home. Latham mentioned when discussing quality with customers, LP® SmartSide® Trim & Siding speaks for itself to ensure confidence in their decision. Specifically, the SmartGuard® treatment protects from hail, wind, moisture, fungal decay and termites. “We see a lot of cuffing, splitting and delamination in our industry, but we have never had these issues with LP. It stands up better than anything I've worked with.”
Instilling Customer Confidence
Latham goes on to say that beyond the home, a shed is one of the biggest purchases customers can make as it relates to their property. Continuing with durability, he says the LP® SmartSide® 5/50-year limited warranty provides reassurance their decision is a good one. “Customers want to know they are investing in a superior product that will last, and that's what LP provides,” he says.
Reimagining the Average Shed
For Latham, one of the most rewarding aspects of the job is seeing how their products are transformed into structures to support hobbies, jobs, communities and more. For example, Summit Portable Buildings recently teamed up with LP® Outdoor Building Solutions® to donate a shed to be used as a food bank for a nonprofit in need. Latham noted that by using LP, they are confident the donation will provide a much-needed food storage solution to support community members for years to come.
